More often than not, your health insurance company still sends you important communiques using the USPS.
Yup, ‘snail mail.’
And what, you may ask, might they be sending?
- ID cards; both for new members or those who have requested a replacement.
- SBCs (Summary of Benefits & Coverage).
- Notice of Pending Cancellation. Say for example you set up your premium for auto-pay years ago using a credit card that recently expired. If you didn’t contact your insurer to update their records (hint, hint), your coverage will lapse at the end of the 30-day grace period.
- A Claim Inquiry. A pending claim may look like it was the result of an accident or injury; i.e., one that might be subrogated to Workers Comp or another third party.
- Pre-Certification denials or approvals.
Trouble is - in part, because ‘Bad Guys’ lurk everywhere - these communiques usually arrive in plain, unmarked envelopes.
And so we toss ‘em. Unopened.
