In an age group already eligible for the Covid vaccine, I registered with the Health System of my primary care physician. Then another, where I’ve had treatment. Then a couple of pharmacies.
Another dead-end at The Washington Ozaukee (Counties) Health Department. Ditto multiple other leads from well-meaning friends.
After hearing over and over - mostly in recorded messages - that “we’re out of vaccine,” came this Hail Mary, aka Dr. Mark Niedfeldt.
I’m not really a client of his concierge practice nor did I expect him to have the vaccine. But as a friend, maybe he could at least point me in the right direction.
Did I say it was 3:00 on a Friday afternoon when I phoned him? With one (Moderna) vaccine left, he’d been calling around to patients. Timing is everything.
Reports of adverse effects gave me pause, but just this Friday I got my second. Guess what? No side effects at all. Lucky or just more hype? (See Adverse Event Reporting System at vaers.hhs.gov. Really?)
BTW, some of you are wondering why you’re being charged co-pays for your vaccines. Same reason some providers collect co-pays even though you have an HDHP (HSA).
See Thomas Tusser.
Mark, however, got a really nice Cabernet.
P.S. Ramped up distribution of vaccines should spare non-boomers a similar ordeal. Just keep in mind what might happen to unused vaccines on a Friday afternoon.
