With Labor Day now in the rear-view mirror, one can’t help think, has there ever been a Spring and Summer like this?
The sources of anxiety are obvious; the economy, pandemic, returning to schools or the office, public safety. No TP. At least we’re not faced with California fires or Gulf Coast tropical storms!
So, how are we coping?
It seemed probable one or more of our health insurers might shed some light on the subject.
Indeed, not surprisingly, claims data shows physician office visits from March thru July for treatment of disorders of anxiety, mood, adjustment, alcohol and substance abuse are all up a whopping 100-130% compared to 2019!
And that doesn’t take into account the enormous surge in virtual telemedicine. Available 24/7 such visits have a $ 0 Co-Pay under many plans.
With apologies in advance for trying to find some humor in a tough time, reading that Bob Newhart turned 91 on Saturday, reminded me how he treated patients with anxiety. Although he didn’t accept insurance, the charge was only $5. Click here.
With that, bring on Fall.
