- In Memory of Keith -
Keith walked in to our Mequon office last summer. He had lost his job 18 months previously so his COBRA coverage was ending. With a newly diagnosed tumor in his jaw, he was very concerned about his ability to get new health insurance.
However, under The Affordable Care Act, the end of COBRA – and multiple other qualifying events – results in a Special Election Period, which allows individuals the opportunity to sign up for health insurance, regardless of pre-existing conditions.
Never married and pretty much alone, Keith visited our office frequently over the next several months. We saw firsthand his cancer spread. The coverage he bought afforded him the opportunity to gallantly fight for his life, which he did with grace and dignity . . . . . . until last week.
When you put a face – like Keith’s – to the issue of pre-existing conditions, there can be no debate.
And yet the matter is under immediate scrutiny once again in Washington. Click here for the details.
For Keith’s sake, let’s hope they get it right!
