Those of you who don’t get health insurance through an employer sponsored group plan are likely to have made changes to coverage during the Medicare Annual Election Period (that ended 12/7) or the ‘Obamacare’ Open Enrollment Period (that ended 12/15).
Now some of you are nervously waiting for new ID cards or confirmation your coverage for January 1 is in force. The thought of falling through the cracks can be nerve-wracking, particularly for those with pre-existing conditions.
If you set up payment for a new plan with a credit card or bank auto-draft, we recommend you check your on line statements. If payment has gone through, you’ll know you’re set, no matter how long it takes the new ID card to arrive. And in some cases, those may be delayed.
One more thing.
If you set up recurring premium payments using a credit card, take a moment now to see if there’s an expiration date in 2019. If so, make sure to contact your insurer when the new cards arrive.
Even better, check your credit card and bank statements regularly to make sure your payments are being accurately processed.
Merry Christmas.
