I just priced out an Apple watch on line; depending on the series, you can spend anywhere from $399 to
$849.
Or, you can get one for free from a health insurer, simply by accumulating credits for walking over six months.
This is just one example of the free stuff health insurers routinely offer. Here are some others:
- flu shots
- telephonic wellness
coaching
- discounts on groceries and fitness clubs
- weight loss and smoking cessation programs.
Each of these have value. Some, like the Apple watch, in the hundreds of dollars.
Then there are “priceless” care support programs
- one client told me his insurance company’s oncology nurse saved his life. Twice!
- another insurer provides a dedicated point of contact for families with children with special
needs.
Our premiums are a major budget expense , but you don’t have to get sick to realize a ROI.
How do you learn about these value adds?
Check out your insurer’s website. Read their mail. Call customer service.
Please let me know how you make out and if the last 30 seconds was worth it!
Thanks.
