Many or our Tips ‘subscribers’ are on Medicare with additional coverage through an Advantage Plan, or a supplemental “Medigap” policy.

For whatever reason, we had a rash of inquiries last week from clients wanting to know if certain services are covered.

As a general rule of thumb, your supplemental coverage will only cover services approved by Medicare, subject to the terms and conditions of your policy.

The key word in that last sentence is “partial.” A client just had something called “radiofrequency ablation.” Good luck finding that on the Medicare.gov list!

So here’s another rule of thumb.

The physician prescribing a service will know if it is covered by Medicare. Have an informed conversation with your doctor before incurring claims.
