Dave called to tell me his daughter is going to be leaving in August for a year of missionary work. He learned in that case his
employer’s health plan would treat her as an expatriate, which means no coverage.
That’s not out of network. That’s out of luck!
We looked at a popular foreign travel plan but it didn’t cover pre-existing conditions; not the right fit for Dave’s daughter.
But we found a solution.
While I don’t like promoting any one company or plan in these Tips, you might want to watch this video.
What I do like is informing. If you have a son or daughter leaving this fall for a semester or two out of the country, check carefully how your policy will cover the cost of care.
And if you buy a travel plan, make sure it covers pre-existing conditions.
Thanks Dave, for the lesson. Class dismissed.
