Best Bud’ had another health episode this week. I say another because he’s dodged one bullet after another fighting cancer for over a decade.
Tough as nails!
This time it was a bad case of the chills (well actually, rigors) that sent
him to UC, where they ran a few tests and prepped him to go home.
Turns out he was flirting with sepsis, the result of an abscessed gall bladder. Without the intervention of an advocate - who sent him to another hospital for surgery - he’d be dead.
Anecdotally, we hear too often of botched care at UC/ER facilities.
Think about being alone in that situation, totally at the mercy of whoever is on call.
A trip to the ER shouldn’t be a game of Craps.
On several occasions, I’ve written about REHEARSING for this kind of event. Do you have a family member or
friend who will speak up for you when things don’t seem right?
Me? I have the cell phone number of my Concierge Doctor, who hopefully will jump in if needed.
And my Bud? His daughter is an experienced RN. Her husband, a gifted surgeon!!
Thank God.
Now, what about YOU?
Tips will return April 12th. Happy Easter.
