One of the best ways to lower health care costs (in a perfect world, premiums too) is to practice wellness.
Agreed?
UPFs are Ultra-Processed Foods. They contain the chemicals and additives put into those foods found mostly (but
not exclusively) in the center aisles of the store, to extend shelf life . . . . . . at the expense of OUR life! (Keep reading.)
My Personal Trainer just showed me a free app called ‘Yuka.’ With it, you scan the food label bar codes to get a score.
My 0 Sugar (“healthy”) lemonade gets a ‘Poor’ 40/100; loaded with UPFs. (The App also suggests alternatives.) My ‘Low Fat’ Peanut Butter gets a ‘Bad’ 4/100; the same company makes a natural peanut version that’s a ‘Good’ 66/100.
My
cottage cheese is an ‘Excellent’ 84/100. My ‘healthy’ spread butter is a ‘Bad’ 18/100.
Maybe the novelty will wear off, but this is so interesting. And, fun.
Now Google “Do Ultra Processed Foods cause cancer?” Pretty scary!
Dig a little deeper. There’s (mostly
anecdotal) evidence that even if you already have cancer, purging your diet of UPFs may enhance your survival.
Exciting. (Pass this on.)
But I’m not giving up bacon!
