Tip #220
37 YEARS

That’s the answer to two questions:
  • American Pharoah won the Triple Crown Saturday. How long had it been since that feat had last been accomplished?
  • According to most men, what is the appropriate interval between colonoscopies?
OK, so I got you to laugh. But this is serious stuff.

I talked to a friend last week who had 18 inches of his colon removed after cancerous polyps were found during a colonoscopy that he had put off for years.

Here’s the deal.

According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control & Prevention, colonoscopies are recommended every 10 years beginning at age 50; more frequently for certain high risk individuals. You can check out the CDC guidelines here.

Preparing for the procedure isn’t as bad as everyone says. It only takes about 30 minutes and you get a good nap for your trouble. I should know; I had mine Thursday.

Finally, depending on how your provider codes the charges, preventive care is covered by most health plans at 100%.

No more excuses. Make the appointment today.
