Sunny summer days most definitely have arrived, but here’s a word (well actually, 192 words) of caution.
This:
A Guy I know has a history of melanoma in his
family, so he sees his dermatologist every six months.
It’s not unusual for the doc to cut out ($976) a ‘suspicious mole’ for biopsy ($281). If cancerous, that means a second deeper/excissive surgical incision ($2,038) and more lab work ($396).
Near as I can tell,
‘This Guy’ hasn’t been charged when the nurse removes the stitches. Whoo-hoo!
Fortunately, the cancer has been ‘in situ’ but still, it’s rinse and repeat about every six months.
Never mind each episode of care requires three office visits (drive time plus) and
costs +/- $3700 (100% covered by insurance); ‘This Guy’ looks like he’s been in a knife fight!!
That:
The best dermatologist recommended broad spectrum mineral (e.g., zinc or titanium) sunscreens cost about $55 (HSA eligible), and take just a couple of minutes to apply.
Oh, well. At least ‘This Guy’ is a nice little annuity for ‘Dr. Bowie.’
Similarly, his dentist (‘Dr. Crown’) appreciates my - I mean, ‘This Guy’s’ - love of corn nuts!
