UPPING THE 'GAME' IN SUPPLEMENTAL HEALTH SOLUTIONS
It has been widely reported that +/- 63% of American workers (depending
on the source) have less than $1,000 on hand for the out of pocket expense of an unexpected serious illness or emergency.
Those same workers however, are covered by health plans that have high Out of Pocket (OOP) exposure, vis a vis deductibles, co-insurance (10-20%) and co-pays.
Annual OOP maximums vary widely, but only 13% of employer sponsored group plans have caps of
$2,000 or less; 21% are $6,001 or more! (Source: KFF.)
That gap between savings and exposure, in part explains the growing popularity of Supplemental Health Plans; e.g., Hospital Indemnity, Critical Illness & Accident.
To wit, the
omnipresent Duck.
But what if the underlying Health Insurer also offered Supplemental Health coverage. Consider for example, your child had his broken arm set in the ER. Wouldn’t it make sense for that health event to automatically trigger an accident payout?
It’s called Claims Integration, and it dramatically enhances the value of a well-rounded Employee Benefits
Package.
