MY HEAD IS GONG TO EXPLODE!
Some of you might remember Tip # 603. In it, I mentioned a trip to Nashville in July for a
confab of Brokers from all over the country. Since we don’t compete directly for business, we openly share innovations in employee benefits, compliance best practices, and more.
We call ourselves ‘Masterminds.’ (Please, no comments from the
Peanut Gallery!)
Well, we were back in Nashville again this week.
How, in 30 Seconds, can I even begin to report back just the high-lights of the Conference? Reminds me (again) how much I don’t know, even after 40+ years in the business.
Here’s just one issue that we all agreed needs re-visiting.
Most small business owners are by nature paternalistic toward long term employees. When such an individual is unable to work due to
an extended illness, ‘Nice Guy’ Boss is often inclined to ignore insurers’ “actively at work” rules.
Your Employee Handbook should precisely address when an employee is no longer eligible for benefits and when a COBRA Election will be
offered.
While that may seem ‘heartless,’ having a claim denied would be worse.
There.
I’ve emptied my head of at least one ‘nugget.’
(Another lob-pitch ‘softball for the Peanut Gallery!)
