HEALTH PREMIUMS TAKE A 'BACKSEAT' TO AUTO & HOMEOWNER
It’s been five years (!) since The Rauser Agency became an Affiliate of Robertson Ryan, the 48th largest P & C Insurance Agency in the country. (As reported in The Insurance Journal.)
The chatter amongst my colleagues internally is unusually alarming.
To wit, memos are circulating telling of insurers’ loss
ratios north of 100%. Or, a local iconic insurer being downgraded by A.M. Best from A- to B+.
In Tip # 608, we reported that health premiums are forecast to increase on average 6.5% in 2024.
But renewals of Homeowner and Auto Packages are coming in with increases of 20% or more!
It seems worth noting then, that while inflation for some consumer
goods may be moderating, insurance premium increases across the board will continue to frustrate consumers and policymakers.
BTW, your knee-jerk reaction when you receive a larger than normal premium increase is to ask your agent for alternate
quotes.
A word of caution.
A ‘cheaper’ Homeowner/Auto Package may just be the result of the kind of exclusions ‘Obamacare’ banned for most health plans.
Buckle
up!
