WILL CYCLING EXTEND YOUR LIFE EXPECTANCY?"
I bumped into Jim on my way to church this morning. He was resting at a gas station midway on a ride to see his daughter in Westtown. He lives in West Bend.
You read that right. I’d estimate it’s at least 80 miles round trip!
Jim’s at least a decade younger than me but still, I had to note I
was impressed. He quipped he was just hoping to extend his life as long as possible.
Back at my desk now, I’m playing around with several life expectancy calculators easily found
on-line.
Northwestern Mutual has a good (quick!) one HERE.
Google others if you’re curious. Some are really detailed.
Consistent with them all is the impact of physical activity on life expectancy. In some cases, by as much as
6-10 years, or more.
So, nice going, Jim. Looks like you’ll be around for many more Father’s Day celebrations.
Just don’t tell anyone I came out of that same gas station with a Cappuccino and a chocolate Long John!
But hey, I was going to church? Turns out that might off-set the doughnut.
I’ll explain next Sunday.
