THE 'KID' JUST TURNED 13!!
On March 23rd, 2010 the Patient Protection and Affordable Care
Act became law. (How did P-PACA become just The ACA? Obama didn’t go to Ohio State, did he?)
The ACA was intended to lower costs, while enhancing the quality of - and access to - care.
For
individuals eligible for tax credits, Obamacare is a home run.
Premiums net of current tax credits are in some cases ridiculously low. Therefore, uninsured rates have dramatically fallen.
Nice.
Consider however a single middle class 58 year old with a chronic condition; his/her 2023 ‘affordable’ annual premium and out of pocket maximum are $14,078
and $9,100 respectively.
Ouch!
OK, so how has The ACA impacted the employer sponsored group health insurance market?
(Really? I’ve only got about 12 Seconds left!)
The percentage of small and/or large employers offering coverage hasn’t significantly changed, while premium increases – as noted many times in these weekly Tips – continue to rise.
So Happy Birthday Obamacare. You’ve accomplished a lot for a teenager.
We’re still expecting more but heck, there’s plenty of time.
You’ve got until you turn 26!
