SHOULD I HAVE GONE TO THE ER?
Anyone notice a break in these Tips?
Well, I never send a Tip on Easter Sunday and the week before that, I was really, really sick, giving rise to the following.
The mother of all GI infections arrived on
March 20th. Toilet, couch, toilet, bed, toilet, couch, toilet, bed. (I know, TMI.) System finally quieted after 10 days (seemed like a year!) but then I was dehydrated, weak and feverish.
I spend $2400 a year for an independent concierge doc; the idea first being he’ll keep me well but also, when possible, keep me away from Health Systems driven by revenues, not remedies.
Doc called me often monitoring my progress. (Uncanny ability to know when I’d just fallen asleep!) He predicted the timeline including the fever and when it would break. I recovered after two-plus weeks with bed rest and lots and lots of water.
Had I gone to the ER, no doubt they would have done every test imaginable to determine if I had more than just a bad bug. $100K later, I’d have recovered in the same amount of time.
Feeling great now and 12 pounds lighter. Sweet!
But wondering, did I do the right
thing?
