LET'S TAKE CHARGE OF REFORMING HEALTHCARE - PART II
Last week’s Tip (# 573) started what might become a dialogue.
(I did get some nice suggestions. Keep ‘em coming!)
Presumably, there’s a raft of reform ‘Tips’ lined up, ready to go.
(Those who know me are having a good laugh about now!)
Nevertheless, let’s start with identifying what may be a fundamental flaw in our current system.
Per Census Bureau statistics (HERE), 54.8% of Americans have employment based health insurance; 39.9% get coverage through various government programs (e.g., Medicare, Medicaid, Tri-Care & VA).
When third parties pay most of the premiums and
claims, have we created an entitlement culture all but eliminating any personal responsibility?
Consider
‘consumption’ at a party with an open bar!
While the current system does yeoman work financing health care, ‘reform’
might seek ways to better engage consumers.
Hinting that I’ve actually thought this through, subsequent ‘Parts’
will suggest carrot and stick incentives to change how we behave at the health care ‘bar.’
Talk about painting
oneself into a corner!!
(Christmas and New Year’s fall on Sundays this year, so there’ll be a pause when I can pull some more ideas out of my . . . . . . . stocking!)
