WILL THE REAL TURKEY PLEASE STAND UP
Health insurers do not pay every claim submitted. Unless you think premiums are too low, most consumers understand that.
Until it’s their own claim that’s been denied.
That’s when we hear about those “evil” for profit insurance companies and their “diabolical” schemes to screw policyholders.
Let’s flip this narrative.
Did you see the list of the ‘Largest Milwaukee-Area Acute Care Hospitals’ in Friday’s Business Journal?
Compare their
net income as a percent of earnings to the publicly traded health insurers.
One was14.5%. Not too shabby!
Also on Friday, the WSJ had a front page article about how some hospitals put up obstacles for needy patients to get financial aid. Which BTW, is
required as justification for their non-profit status.
And speaking of
schemes, do you think there are any incentives being paid to physicians who refer patients for (unnecessary) testing and procedures? Or to those who demand co-pays when you check in at a clinic, even when none are owed?
What more can be said in just 30 Seconds?
Except maybe, be well and Happy Thanksgiving.
