WHAT SPREADSHEETS MISS
Two special friends received a cancer diagnosis this week.
Devastating news that unfortunately many of us will receive some day.
Makes me lament those who still buy off a spreadsheet;
i.e., does a 2 or 3% difference in premium mean s#@t at a time like this?
Consider trying a little experiment.
Call the Customer Service number on your ID card. Tell them you’re rehearsing for the day when you really need help. What services are offered?
Carrier One sent me to “our Medicare Advice Line” which turned out not to be Medicare at all, but the phone number of an entirely different insurer! Gawd, imagine if I really was in distress. (BTW,
I alerted this company they might want to ‘audit’ my recorded call.)
Carrier Two has a robust “Cancer Support Program” (CSP) that connects members “with a nurse specially trained in oncology
for your treatment journey” to “get help exploring treatment options” and “receive support working with your doctors.”
BTW, Carrier One is a not for profit insurance company. Carrier Two is
traded on the NYSE. (No doubt disappointing cynics!)
Bookmark these other resources too; e.g., the American Cancer Society, or ABCD.
As Robert Baden-Powell said,
“Be Prepared.”
