That was the title of a Business Journal forum Wednesday at The Medical College of Wisconsin. Panelists included the leaders of local health systems; i.e., providers, not payers.
Given the title, venue and speakers, I had hoped to hear about innovations in health care.
Unfortunately, what we did learn is hospitals are bleeding red ink. Big time!
And while ‘treatment’ options are still being vetted, most likely they’ll involve at minimum “changes in the way we deliver care” which may mean – and of greater concern - “curtailing or eliminating services!”
Read the BJ summary of the event HERE. (Thanks Rich Kirchen for contributing to
this week’s Tip!)
Recently Tip #547 predicted “double digit” premium increases for 2023. Hoping then for low
teens, upping the ante a bit now seems prudent. And don’t miss a key quote from Rich’s re-cap: “This is at least a two- to three-year issue!”
Amidst all the hand-wringing however, there was – to me anyway – one actual prognostication more relevant to the event’s billing. It was this almost throw-away line: "We believe the future of health care is at the home.”
Consider the source and then pause (for more than 30 Seconds) to think that through.
